Glenn Khobuntin was already having himself a good game in the Columbian Dyip’s 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup meeting with the NorthPort Batang Pier on Wednesday evening.
Unfortunately, disaster then struck.
The 6-foot-4 forward hurt his left knee following an accidental collision with opposing big man Mo Tautuaa at the 5:47 mark of the third quarter. He did not return to the action.
Khobuntin left the game with 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field, along with a rebound and an assist.
“Aksidente din eh. Kasi pagsalo ko ng bola dumiretso si Mo sa tuhod ko, so nagkabanggaan kami ng tuhod,” Khobuntin recalled.
“Namamaga pero nakakapag-lakad naman ako.”
Still, Khobuntin is proud that the rest of the Dyip pulled through and came out with the 114-108 victory. Otherwise, the 28-year-old said, it would be much more painful for him.
“Oo malaking bagay. Masakit na nga, [pero] mas masakit pa kung natalo. Proud ako sa teammates ko kasi nakuha namin yung panalo,” said the four-year pro out of National University.
Still, Khobuntin is hoping and praying that he will not have to deal with a serious knee injury.
“Bukas pa MRI schedule eh, mga 7 a.m. So wala akong idea kung anong meron. I pray na sana ‘di seryoso,” he said.
Dyip head coach Johnedel Cardel is hoping for the same, saying that it would be big should they lose him in their clash versus the TNT KaTropa this Saturday, October 5, at Ynares Center.
“I’m worried about that kasi he’s my stopper. Defends four-guys, two-guys, one-guys,” said Cardel about Khobuntin.
“He’s a big loss sa’kin kapag ‘di siya nakalaro for this coming TNT game on Saturday.”
