Glenn Khobuntin is choosing to move on after being at the center of an ugly fistfight that spoiled TNT’s PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup debut on Friday.
The Tropang 5G have been one of the most talked about teams entering the tilt in which they’re the defending champions, but the veteran bruiser would make headlines as well after exchanging blows with Jaylen Johnson.
“Di mo masabing regret; nangyari na ang nangyari, eh. So move on na lang,” he said moments after their 109-112 loss at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
The incident happened with around 6:20 remaining in the deciding chapter, after the two got physical while jockeying for position underneath the basket.
Both of their teams, together with some of the league’s staffers and event security, were able to de-escalate the situation, and the two were eventually booted out of the game as they were called for an F2 each.
Johnson left the game with 33 points on six threes and nine rebounds, while Khobuntin exited with only five points and four rebounds to his tally.
“Mataas masyado ‘yung emosyon, eh. Siyempre, dikit ‘yung game. Kagulo,” the former National University Bulldog reflected with a smile.
But behind the chuckle, Khobuntin lamented how he responded to Johnson, who in a separate interview, was deeply apologetic for what happened.
“Nagkapisikalan kasi tapos siyempre medyo may nag-swing-swing, wala nang nagawa. Bumawi lang nang konti. Pero yeah… masama ang bumawi,” he said.
An official announcement has yet to be made, but both players are expected to be slapped with a one-game suspension and a fine by the Commissioner’s Office, and Khobuntin is ready to face the consequences of his actions.
“Kung anong mangyari, tanggapin natin ‘yung consequences,” the 34-year-old forward said.
