Gina Iniong finally gets well-deserved rest

Gina “Conviction” Iniong’s busy 2019 may have spilled over to the first month of this year – but she is not one to complain.

After all, how can you complain when you just keep winning?

Iniong continued to snag victories, this time in her return to the ONE Championship Circle as she earned a dominant unanimous decision win over Asha “Knockout Queen” Roka at ONE: Fire and Fury on January 31 at the Mall Of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.

It was a busy four-month stretch for Iniong, which started in October of last year when she married her longtime beau, Richard. It was also around that time when she kicked off her preparation for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in kickboxing.SEAG-2019-Kickboxing-Womens-Gina-Iniong-4 Gina Iniong finally gets well-deserved rest Mixed Martial Arts News ONE Championship - philippine sports news

After winning the gold medal, the 30-year-old then turned her focus on her mixed martial arts return – and it paid off with another rousing win.

“It was all worth it. We have been working non-stop and I’m just happy that it all paid off,” Iniong said.

“For now, I want to get that rest, get a vacation, spend time with my husband and family so I can rest and recharge for my next matches.”

January 31 was also extra-special for “Conviction.”

Aside from nearing her long-desired showdown with reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee, Iniong was more ecstatic about putting on a great performance for the men of her life.

It was the first time Iniong’s father and husband watched her compete live in mixed martial arts, and she made sure not to disappoint.

“In my mind, I didn’t want to lose in front of them. This was the first time my father and husband watched live and I couldn’t live with it if I let them down tonight,” Iniong said.

“After the match, they visited me and though my father is a man of few words, I could just see how happy and proud they were.”

Iniong might be enjoying quality family time now, but with momentum on her side, do not be surprised to see the Team Lakay standout back on the Circle soon.

ONE Championship returns to the Lion City for ONE: KING OF THE JUNGLE on February 28 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Former ONE Featherweight World Champion Honorio “The Rock” Banario battles Shannon “OneShin” Wiratchai in a clash of styles.
