Team Lakay’s Gina Iniong added the 30th Southeast Asian Games women’s -55 kg kick light event to the Philippine National Kickboxing Team’s haul after a shutout of Thailand’s Apichaya Mingkhwan, 3-0, Tuesday at the Cuneta Astrodome, Pasay City.
The Baguio-native, who competes in the atomweight division of ONE Championship, was dominant from the onset. She rained in a flurry of punches and kicks on the Thai, easily taking the judges’ nod to lead, 2-0, in the first round.
The next two rounds show the Filipina fighter floor the opponent several times, but could not finish the fight right then and there.
Nonetheless, after three rounds, Iniong completed her domination, blanking Mingkhwan for the gold.
This is the kickboxing team’s second gold, the first coming from Iniong’s teammate Jeremy Olsim yesterday.
