Gian Mamuyac hopes to regain full form for Rain or Shine

Gian Mamuyac is staying patient as he continues to work his way back into game shape after being sidelined for months due to a broken hand.

The two-way winger played his first game back Wednesday but didn’t receive the welcome he would’ve wanted after Rain or Shine lost to TNT, 88-84, in Game 1 of their PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinal series.

“Hopefully maging 100-percent na kasi medyo hesitant pa sa court, medyo ilang pa,” he said while on his way out of the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

“Dadahan-dahanin naman namin and walang sawa naman ‘yung PTs and yung coaches ko, yung strength & conditioning coaches ko na magbigay ng workouts and alagaan ako,” added the 25-year-old combo guard.

Mamuyac was out for three months as he suffered a fracture on the fourth metacarpal of his right hand during a team practice.

He missed their conference debut last December and only suited up during the quarterfinals earlier this February, but did not see action yet.

“Wala pa pong clearance from the doctor nun eh,” he said. “Nakakuha lang kami ng clearance from the doctor nitong two-week break, before the semifinals started. Ayun, nakakapaglaro na po ngayon, nakakasali na sa practices.”

Mamuyac finally played in Game 1 on Wednesday, wherein he tallied four points, two rebounds, and an assist in 12 minutes off the bench.

Too bad that Rain or Shine couldn’t find an extra gear heading into the homestretch as Jayson Castro and the Tropang Giga went on to pull off the finishing blows on the way to gaining the head start in the best-of-7 series.

The Ateneo de Manila product could only lament the finish. Still, he hopes that they could perform better in Game 2 on Friday at the Philsports Arena.

And along with that comes his hope to be able to deliver better as well personally.

“Grateful din ako na nakalaro ako, and sana lang hindi maging pabigat,” Mamuyac said with a smile. “Pero sana makabawi kami sa next game. Dadahan-dahanin ko and sana makabalik na rin ako.”
