Eustaquio, Kingad remain undecided as potential collision course looms


Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio would rather focus on the present rather than the future while a possible showdown with his teammate Danny “The King” Kingad continues to loom over them.

The 30-year-old Baguio City native is scheduled to square-off against Yuya “Little Piranha” Wakamatsu in a ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix alternate bout at ONE: Dawn of Heroes on August 2 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.

A win for the former ONE Flyweight World Champion would guarantee him a slot in the Grand Prix, if any of the current competitors withdraw from the tournament.

However, it is not something that Eustaquio thinks of at the moment.

“We’re both winning, so I guess that’s a good thing for the both of us,” Eustaquio shared.

“There will come a time wherein we may have to meet, but as we always say in the gym, family always comes first. Brothers always come first.”

When asked about the possibility of a showdown with his teammate, Kingad quickly shut down the thought. For the 23-year old, he’d rather give way than to put their relationship at risk.

“If it was up to me, I wouldn’t fight him,” Kingad said.

“When you give us a chance to fight for a World Title, it might cause a rift between the team, and I wouldn’t want to be in that situation.”

While Kingad completely shut it down, Eustaquio believes that it is something that they can talk about.

“As I have said before, we are employees here in this organization,” Eustaquio shared.

“If ONE Championship says we really need to fight one another, then most probably we’ll have to conduct a family meeting and sit with one another.”

In the end, both Eustaquio and Kingad are in unison in saying that they will leave the final say to the team’s head coach, Mark Sangiao.

After all, coach Mark knows best.

“Coach Mark Sangiao is the right person to ask regarding this matter. Coach Mark will decide what is the best thing to do for the both of us,” Eustaquio explained.

“But again, the good thing is Danny is winning, I am winning. We are on the winning track, and I hope it will continue.”
