Home is where the heart is.
In Jared’s case, Bahay chose where his heart wanted him to be.
The 18-year-old floor general out of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu has decided to pursue his college education at Ateneo de Manila University while playing for the Blue Eagles.
“I have decided to continue my studies at Ateneo de Manila and play for the Blue Eagles.
“I believe that sustaining my Jesuit education will help unlock and sharpen my potential to the fullest, both on and off the court. Growing up and experiencing Cura Personalis at SHS-ADC, I am confident that their vision and holistic approach will contribute to my growth and maturity as a student, athlete, and person. I look forward to joining Coach Tab, the team, and the rest of the Ateneo community soon,” he continued.
“Dugay nako nagdamgo nga makabot ko sa UAAP, ug pirting lipaya nako nga makaduwa ko para sa blue and white.”
It was a long journey for Bahay before deciding where he would go to college.
After steering the Magis Eagles to the championship during the 22nd edition of the CESAFI, Bahay announced that he was going to UP.
However, during his senior year at Ateneo de Cebu, he thought long and hard about where he truly wanted to be.
Still, he remained focused on his mission – leading the Magis Eagles to a ‘three-peat.’
In the CESAFI Season 23 Finals, he averaged 16.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 3.0 steals, earning him the Finals MVP award.
He then decided to ‘re-think’ his decision, ultimately choosing to stay home.
Now, he gets to play alongside fellow Magis Eagles in Raffy Celiz and Michael Asoro.
The 5-foot-10 point guard will also be reunited with fellow Gilas batchmates Mason Amos, Kyle Gamber, Lebron Nieto, and Kobe Demisana.
Bahay will be the lead general for the Blue Eagles, who finished in fourth place last season. Ateneo is also contending with the departure of Jared Brown.
“We’re really happy that Jared opted to come to Ateneo. We’re very excited, knowing that he will be a significant part of our program moving forward,” said Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin.
