Escueta glad to see bundle of joy and energy Ynot notch career-high


After an upset game against University Perpetual Help System DALTA last Saturday, San Beda University has had to rely upon one of its key players.

And Tony Ynot was tasked to step up to carry the offensive load when the Red Lions cruised over Emilio Aguinaldo College in a 72-64 victory.

Ynot produced a double-double in the game with a career-high 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field, along with 10 rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Prior to the game, the 6-foot-1 guard of San Beda-Taytay is also averaging 8.56 points, 4.78 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.5 blocks, and 0.4 steals.

Coming off a shock loss to University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, San Beda University needed a bounce-back that would boost their morale.

And it was sophomore guard Tony Ynot who took the challenge of stepping up.

Against Emilio Aguinaldo College, Ynot went off for 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field while also tallying 10 rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

“Inisip ko lang is kailangan talaga namin manalo. Kasi galing kami sa talo diba? Kaya ‘yung panalo na ‘to madadala namin sa next game namin against Benilde,” said Ynot, a Misamis Occidental native, after their 72-64 win over the Generals.

“Nagpapasalamat lang ako kay God kasi binigyan niya ako ng lakas at binigay ko rin ‘yung best ko para sa team.”

First-year San Beda head coach Yuri Escueta though was no longer surprised with the outing of Ynot.

“Di naman ako surprise kasi the way he practices; talagang the way he plays, that’s how he practices everyday. So kaya pinupulikat na nga duma-dive pa eh. So wala ka talaga masabi sa player na ‘yun – he’s a special player. He’s an energy, he’s a very positive player,” gushed Escueta.

‘Yung atmosphere pag nandyan siya lahat masaya, tapos the way he’s God given with the athleticism, and that attitude wala ka talaga masabi. So I’m not surprised na nag career-high siya today.”

Ynot though is not putting too much on his personal feat, saying that he did it all just to help San Beda bounce back.

“Yun nga palagi sa training, palagi ako nagpapasaya. Sa training naman seryoso ako minsan, pag malungkot ako sa training dun ko linalabas ‘yung kulit ko para ma-energy ‘yung team,” shared Ynot.

“Siguro chamba lang ngayon eh. Di ko alam sa next game kung ano mangyari.”
