DLSZ’s Kean Baclaan commits to UST

University of Santo Tomas continues to load up its backcourt.

Lights-out scorer Kean Baclaan committed to join the Growling Tigers, Tuesday evening.

The 18-year-old decided to join the program of head coach Jinino Manansala because of how he fits in the team’s planned system.

“Hindi madali mag-decide, pero alam ko and alam ng parents ko kung sa’n ako mapapabuti and kung sa’n ko ma-reach ‘yung full potential ko as a basketball player,” Baclaan told Tiebreaker Times.

“Pumunta ako sa school na alam ko kung sa’n ko malalaro ‘yung larong meron ako.”

During his high school run, the 5-foot-8 athletic guard lit up both the NCAA and the UAAP.

He spent his Grade 8 and 9 years in San Sebastian, playing 17 games there. He had averages of 13.41 points, 5.35 rebounds, 3.58 assists, and 1.58 steals per game.

The resident of Muntinlupa City then transferred to De La Salle Zobel for his Grade 10 studies, averaging 16.38 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.69 assists, and 1.08 steals per game. That, though, ended up as a one-and-done stint due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

He will be transferring to UST High before suiting up for the Growling Tigers on Season 85.

Baclaan continues the string of commitments to UST for the week that includes Jordi Gomez de Liaño, LA Cansinillo, and Royce Mantua.

And he can’t wait to play alongside his former foes.

“Sobrang excited na ko na makasama sila sa team and ibabangon ulit namin ‘yung sigla na nawala sa UST community.”
