After spending a full season with Creamline, Bea De Leon remains in awe of the team’s culture and relentless work ethic—qualities her teammates continue to display despite their already impressive résumés.
The Cool Smashers, the most successful team in the league, added three more trophies to their collection last year, capping off the 2024 Premier Volleyball League season with the league’s first-ever grand slam.
De Leon expressed her admiration for the team’s humility despite their immense success. She noted that the squad remains grounded and committed to improvement, a culture instilled by none other than Alyssa Valdez.
“Ako actually, relatively bago ako dito so from the outside coming in, hangang hanga ako sa mindset nila kasi kahit ganun na kataas ‘yung naabot nila, the work ethic is still so high,” said De Leon, who joined Creamline before the 2024 PVL season.
“Ang taas ng disiplina, ang taas lagi ng level ng training and ‘yun, nakaka-motivate din ‘yun on my part na makita. Kasi, despite all the greatness that they’ve already done, still one hundred percent all in (pa rin) as if hindi pa kami nananalo before,” she continued.
For her part, the 28-year-old middle blocker is focused on following in her teammates’ footsteps, putting in the hard work to become a reliable and consistent contributor for Creamline.
“Personally, gusto ko lang talaga mag-aim for consistency so I wanted to come to this game with a really good mindset and really focused, syempre with the help of my teammates,” De Leon shared.
“All of us here naman wanted the same thing, lalo na nung up two sets kami we wanted that extra push na ma-finish siya sa tatlo. Talagang with the help of my teammates, anything naman is possible,” she added.
De Leon’s dedication continues to pay off. After scoring 12 points in a grueling five-set win against Cignal, she delivered another double-digit performance, helping Creamline secure a 25-17, 25-17, 25-21 victory over Chery Tiggo on Thursday night.
She finished with 13 points, tallying eight attacks, three aces, and two blocks as the Cool Smashers remained unbeaten after eight games in the all-local tilt. They also extended their winning streak to 18 games, dating back to the 2024 Reinforced Conference.
Despite Creamline’s dominance, De Leon emphasized that there is still much more to accomplish. She remains committed to pushing herself further and working harder to help elevate the team to even greater heights.
“Talagang hangang hanga rin ako with that part and I think like what Coach Sherwin (Meneses) said, mahaba pa. Of course, it’s a nice place to be in now pero mahabang mahaba pa ‘yung season, sobrang dami pa naming tatrabahuhin.”
