Despite all the blessings and accolades, birthday girl Alyssa Valdez remains focused

Alyssa Valdez has undeniably entrenched herself as one of the most decorated and well-renowned athletes in the country.

With plenty of accolades under her belt, numerous international stints carrying the flag on her back and a huge following both at the games and online, it is safe to say that the San Juan, Batangas native is currently the face of Philippine Volleyball.

And as she celebrated her 26th birthday on Saturday, the Ateneo Lady Eagle legend made it a point to express her gratitude to those who have provided and continue to provide strong winds underneath her wings.

“It’s nice to be surrounded by people that you love also and who loves you,” the multi-awarded athlete beamed.“That’s why you survive every year naman. I’m just thankful, thank you so much.

“Parang feeling ko napakatagal ko na dito sa volleyball na ito.”

As spectacular as she is in the world of volleyball, Valdez is just as awe-inspiring of a personality beyond the realm of sports.

Flaunting her infectious smile and radiant aura, she has appeared multiple times in popular media.

Whether it is on-screen – most notably as an endorser of sports products, gear and drinks, guest in talk shows and now, as an actress in her first-ever acting role in a romance-drama film titled My Letters to Happy – or features in magazines like Chalk and Mega, to name a few, Valdez just doesn’t seem to disappoint.

Having been held with high regards by many, one would not imagine someone as popular as Valdez to wear one’s heart on one’s sleeve. But as she pondered on the idea of aging and the life that entails those who have turned a new chapter in their lives, she couldn’t help but speak with utmost sincerity.

She acknowledged the obstacles that come along growing up. Still, living a life as pressure-filled yet fulfilling as hers for 26 years and counting, she has learned how to embrace both the good and bad.

“Hirap pag tumatanda, ‘yung quarter-life crisis, you think of the future, what’s going to happen next, ano ‘yung stability mo – financial stability, emotional stability. I don’t know if it’s just me or lahat dumadaan dito,” the National team regular confided.

“But it’s just like the fun part of growing is knowing – siguro ‘yung looking forward kung ano magiging problema mo.”
