Denden Revilla eager for championship reunion with Alyssa Valdez in Creamline

Denden Lazaro-Revilla is hoping for great things in her much-anticipated reunion with former college teammate and good friend Alyssa Valdez in Creamline in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League season.

Lazaro-Revilla, who last played with Valdez in the 2017 Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship, transferred to Creamline in a shock move after the Second All-Filipino Conference, where the Cool Smashers swept Choco Mucho in the finals.

“I’m really excited kasi nga I’ve spent five, maybe a couple of national team stints with Ly and I know much hard work and love for the game she puts in every game and every season that she plays,” said the 32-year-old defensive ace.

Now on the same side as the three-time PVL MVP after almost six years, Lazaro-Revilla hopes that their reunion can translate into a championship, just like the old times.

“I’m really excited to be with her on the court in the same team and hopefully mag-translate yun into a championship,” said Revilla, who won two UAAP championships with Valdez during their time in Ateneo.

Revilla, though, isn’t getting too ahead of herself.

Revilla said that she is adjusting well to head coach Sherwin Meneses’ system and she aims to be a solid contributor for the Cool Smashers in their title-defense bid in the season-opening All-Filipino Conference.

“Preparations for the upcoming conference, yes it is a short time lang, less than two months? But we’ve been going hard on training but at the same time alam nila coach Sherwin (Meneses) kung paano i-pace yung mga tao so yeah, training’s coming along great and preparations are good,” said Revilla.

“The goal is to be able to adjust smoothly and as quickly as possible kasi mga mabilis yung mga pangyayari. To contribute as much as I can in whatever role I’m given and to stay healthy all throughout the conference… for the whole year.”
