With the sporting world still at a standstill due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Deanna Wong is still uncertain about whether she will return for her final tour of duty with Ateneo.
“As of now, I really have no idea like it’s not on my mind yet.
“Kasi ‘yung iniisip ko is to go back to my playing form, lalo na galing ako from an injury, so that’s what I’m thinking,” revealed Wong in vodcast Volleyball DNA hosted by Denden Lazaro and Anton Roxas.
The 22-year-old playmaker suffered a stress fracture in the shin of her right leg, causing her to miss the entire 2019 PVL Collegiate Conference. Looking to regain her form, Wong opted to skip the UAAP Season 82 — which was cancelled due to the pandemic — to focus on her recovery.
Setters Jamie Lavitoria and Jaja Maraguinot filled in for Wong in the halted season.
Despite the uncertainty, the Cebu-native is not closing the doors for a return in Season 83.
“Pero if time will… Ano na, maglalaro ako puwede naman.
“Pero ayun, there are also other reasons to consider naman siguro before deciding, so ayun. Hopefully, I’ll be able to make the right decision naman. Pero as of now, wala pa namang commitment or what,” she said.
But if Wong decides to hang up her Ateneo jersey, she will be leaving Katipunan with a championship, a Best Setter award, and three finals appearances under her name.
For now, the incoming fifth year will be putting her focus on recovering and getting acclimated to her new team Choco Mucho, which signed her a few months ago.
