Ateneo ends slump, hands UE another winless UAAP Women’s Volleyball season

Ateneo de Manila University finally snapped a five-game skid with a sweep of winless University of the East, 25-23, 25-19, 29-27, in the UAAP Season 88 Collegiate Women’s Volleyball Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in Manila.

Powered by Dona de Leon and Jihan Chautico, the Blue Eagles broke free from a tough slump to improve to a 2-11 record ahead of their final Season 88 assignment against the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws on Wednesday, April 22, at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

Meanwhile, the Lady Warriors ended Season 88 without a win once again, becoming the first UAAP women’s volleyball team to suffer back-to-back winless seasons since UE went three straight years without a victory from Seasons 75 to 77.

Despite the struggles, UE will retain a solid core heading into Season 89, with team captain Van Bangayan, Angge Reyes, Khy Cepada, and Ashley Cañete all still having one final year of eligibility.
