Angge Reyes promises one last stand for UE

One last fight for the Red and White.

Angelica Reyes will use her final playing year for the University of the East in UAAP Season 89.

She shared her decision shortly after the Lady Warriors’ 23-25, 19-25, 25-27 loss to the Ateneo Blue Eagles, which ended their Season 88 campaign.

“Ako may isa pa po akong playing year so I’m gonna use that po,” Reyes said without hesitation.

Reyes has remained loyal to UE since her high school days, through the challenging collegiate years where she only tallied four wins across four seasons.

But those same struggles are what keep her committed to the university that molded her into one of the UAAP’s top liberos.

“What makes me stay here, sa UE? Kasi gusto ko siyang ipaglaban,” said Reyes.

“Since high school, kasi, same result always, so gusto kong umalis sa UE na makagawa kami ng history together and makagawa kami ng history for women’s volleyball,” she continued.

During her final two years with the Junior Lady Warriors (Seasons 81 and 82), her team also managed just four wins — all coming at the expense of the winless UPIS Junior Maroons.

Leaving UE with a victory has now become her personal goal, especially with their men’s program showing significant improvement this year, rising from 0-14 last season to 4-10.

“Siyempre ‘yung men’s namin, nakakagawa na sila ng history but siyempre kami, ‘yung last history namin is Season 86 pa. So gusto namin na aalis kami na may magawa kaming history for UE — our coaches, UE community, sa teammates namin, gusto namin silang bigyan ng magandang experience dito sa UE,” said Reyes.
