CSRs-turned-streamers Carla Lizardo, Apple David join call for #EsportsPHDoBetter

Courtside reporters Apple David and Carla Lizardo have ventured into game streaming during the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

In their streams “Appleski Gaming” and “the Carly Cat”, they said they feel fortunate to have their fans. Still, there are some trolls who leave disgusting and inappropriate comments.

In the pilot episode of their new show on Tiebreaker Vods’ Beyond The Meta, presented by SMART Monday, the co-hosts slammed the toxicity pestering the gaming community.

“‘Yung mga toxic na tao, they’re really the ones destroying the gaming environment,” said Lizardo.

“Dapat nag-eenjoy tayo ‘di ba? It should be a safe space. It’s a getaway for a lot of people. And this isn’t just applicable to just women — I’m sure a lot of guys also experience this.”

Just last June, Mobile Legends player Jossa Vergara cried in her own stream “Jossa Gaming” after an inappropriate comment.

Lizardo and David both commended Vergara’s later response.

Vergara put on a show while fighting her emotions, carving her way to victory using Granger as her hero.

“Ang irony dito, magaling siya!

“Ang gamit niyang hero si Granger na take note, mahirap. Hindi madaling hero si Granger. I tried playing him pero hindi ko kaya,” said David.

“I think that’s one of the best ways to make your bashers keep quiet and just appreciate your gameplay. Galingan mo na lang, like show off your skills,” said Lizardo.

Meanwhile, the two hosts have different ways of dealing with trolls in the comment section.

For Lizardo, she just “kill[s] them with kindness” and reminds the bashers why she started the stream at the first place — to enjoy video games.

While David, who admitted she is “palaban”, calls out the trolls but still in a kind manner, not losing her poise, usually making a joke out of it.

And with trolls lingering in streams, Lizardo offers the perfect explanation for why these people have the courage to pester.

“Maraming tao na feeling nila invincible sila because they are hiding behind the screen. So minsan nangto-troll o minsan gusto lang nila manira ng araw.”
