Jean Asis credits draft combine after stunning rise to second overall pick

Flying under the radar, Jean Asis emerged as the surprise second overall pick of the 2025 Premier Volleyball League Rookie Draft, held on Sunday at the Novotel Hotel.

The Far Eastern University middle blocker was thrilled to hear her name called by Galeries Tower, especially in a competitive pool of 57 draftees.

Asis credited her impressive showing in the two-day PVL Draft Combine as a key factor in catching the attention of the Highrisers’ coaching staff.

“For me, sobrang nakatulong ang Draft Combine. Doon kasi ipapakita mo kung paano ka talaga magpe-perform so shinow ko lang paano talaga,” said Asis.

“Siguro nakatulong yun for coaches na makita kung ano po talaga yung potential na meron ako,” she added.

A steady presence in the middle for the Lady Tamaraws during her four-year stint in the UAAP, Asis’ hard work culminated in her being selected just behind three-time UAAP MVP Bella Belen.

Now part of the Galeries Tower roster, Asis is eager to help elevate the team’s performance — much like how she helped turn around FEU’s program, which rose from a 1-13 record to a Final Four appearance in just two seasons.

“Siguro, since I have experience na rin sa FEU from eighth to Final Four, siguro I want to help din ‘yung Galeries na tumaas din ‘yung rank sa PVL,” said the newest Highriser.

“Sobrang saya po. Ang dami namin, pero ako ‘yung nabigyan ng chance na maging second pick. Sobrang thankful sa coaches ng Galeries na pinagkatiwalaan nila ako sa posisyon na ‘to.”
