Once hopeless, the Meralco Bolts are suddenly alive again in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup.
The Orangemen have won their second straight game – after losing six consecutive times – by downing Romeo Travis and the Magnolia Hotshots, 94-88, Friday night at the Ynares Center.
“It’s good to beat one of the top teams right now,” said Cliff Hodge, who produced 12 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in the win. “Everyone stepped up tonight.
“For sure, it has been a tough conference for us. This time around, we’re putting the pieces together. We’re going out there and just trying to fight, every game just trying to make the playoffs.”
The Bolts have improved their record to 3-6 after the morale-boosting win over the Hotshots, which means that they have given themselves a better chance of making it into the playoffs.
So far, only three slots are available, as the Alaska Aces, Blackwater Elite, and Phoenix Fuel Masters have all qualified thanks to the Columbian Dyip’s 100-84 stunner of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
So for Hodge, he likes Meralco’s chances of making it into the next stage, especially now that they have an opportunity to take down the Elasto Painters this Sunday, October 21.
“If there’s a chance, we can’t be mad. I feel like if we can get past Rain or Shine, play a great game, if we win there, we’ll leave it up to whoever we play,” said the six-year pro from Florida.
“It’s a do-or-die for us. Right now, our playoffs have already started.”
