Cignal bounced back, venting its ire on Farm Fresh in four sets, 25-23, 28-26, 25-27, 25-14, to secure its spot in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference on Saturday at the Philsports Arena.
The HD Spikers were coming off a four-set loss to Akari to close the first round. They had to recover from a setback in the third frame to improve their standing to 5-1 in Pool D and snap the Foxies’ two-game winning streak.
“Again, lagi ko ‘tong sinasabi, thank you kay Lord for guiding us the whole game. And then siyempre ito rin ‘yung isa sa mindset na kailangan makabawi lang sa pagkatalo namin last game,” said Cignal head coach Shaq delos Santos.
“Good thing naka-recover and napanalo namin ‘yung game. So sobrang happy and siyempre proud sa team kasi siyempre, grabe ‘yung effort na binigay nila kanina,” he added.
MJ Perez delivered a game-high 25 points, 23 of which came from attacks, along with 20 excellent receptions in the two-hour, nine-minute victory for the HD Spikers.
Team captain Ces Molina finished with 14 points and nine excellent receptions. Rose Doria added 13 points, while Chin Basas contributed 11 points on five attacks, four kill blocks, and two aces, along with 13 excellent digs.
Gel Cayuna showcased different facets of her game, tossing 19 excellent sets and scoring eight big points in the win. Meanwhile, Jheck Dionela collected 15 excellent digs.
Cignal will look to build on this win heading into their match against Galeries Tower on Thursday at 5:00 PM at the same venue.
On the other hand, Farm Fresh fell to 2-4 in the standings.
Trisha Tubu top-scored for the Foxies with 23 points on 20 attacks and three blocks, while Yeny Murrilo ended up with 21 points.
Farm Fresh will try to rebound from the loss when they take on Capital1, also on Thursday, at 1:00 PM.
