Chris Hubilla has one birthday wish: Keep juniors crown in San Beda

It was a dream come true for Chris Hubilla, celebrating his birthday with a win against Mapua University in the NCAA Season 98 Juniors Basketball Tournament.

The San Beda Red Cubs climbed the ladder of the tournament with an 86-75 victory against their previous conquerors.

The team’s victory came after a defeat by the same team last February 8. The Red Cubs made a remarkable comeback, and Hubilla led the team with an impressive outing of 22 points, nine rebounds, four steals, and two assists.

For the 20-year-old native of Sorsogon, this is his first NCAA experience, and before his career ends, he wants to prove himself and defend the championship for San Beda – Taytay.

“Gusto ko bago matapos ‘yung career ko sa juniors, gusto ko may mapatunayan muna ako,” he stated.

On Wednesday, the Red Cubs will face La Salle Green Hills for the last twice-to-beat incentive.

In their previous game last February 10, San Beda lost in an 84-87 against the Greenies despite leading by 19 points in the first half. However, Hubilla and his team are eager to defeat LSGH this time and feel determined to work hard to take down their opponent.

Despite the naysayers who discourage them from reaching the top four, San Beda remains unaffected and will prove them wrong by already beating Mapua.

“Sinusuklian lang namin ‘yung mga opportunity na binibigay sa amin ng coaches namin,” he shared.

Safe to say, Hubilla and his team remain focused on winning against LSGH, despite also setting their sight on being in the big dance.

“Isipin muna namin ‘yung manalo muna kami sa La Salle yan sabi sa amin ng coach namin,” he said.

For Hubilla and the San Beda Red Cubs, the championship is within their reach, and they will do everything to prove themselves and defend their title.
