San Beda-Rizal finally breaks through, tops JRU for 1st win in NCAA 101

San Beda-Rizal finally broke into the win column of the NCAA Season 101 Juniors Basketball Tournament’s Group B after a convincing 64-52 victory over Jose Rizal University, Friday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Andrei Ugaddan, who averaged 15.5 points in the Red Cubs’ previous losses to LSGH and Letran, was limited to just four points this time — but his teammates rose to the occasion.

Jose Jomalesa spearheaded the balanced San Beda attack with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, alongside three steals and four rebounds.

Juris San Juan added 11 points and six boards, while Bill Gravador and Martin Mejia chipped in 10 points apiece to seal the team’s first win of the season.

Steven Creus powered the Junior Pirates with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Lamarcus Pelayo and James Nodalo contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Lexi Callueng led the Light Bombers with 11 points in the losing effort, as JRU remained winless in three games.

The Staglets also dropped to 0-3, despite strong outings from JC Ynot (18 points), Khaizer Castillo (17), and Brown Tepan (12).
