After five years, the Philippines is set to host a World Tour leg once more.
Through the efforts of Chooks-to-Go, Manila will host the second Masters tournament of the 2020 FIBA 3×3 World Tour.
FIBA 3×3 made the announcement on Monday evening.
The Chooks-to-Go Manila Masters will take place from May 2-3, 2020 at the SM Megamall Fashion Hall.
This is only the third time the country was awarded a leg. The last time the level 10-event was held in Manila was back in 2014 and 2015.
And Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 league owner Ronald Mascariñas made sure that it returns here.
“Last year, 3×3 basketball once again entered the collective consciousness of the Filipino people. We had three conferences in our local league, while also having two international tournaments here — namely the world’s first-ever Super Quest and the Manila Challenger,” Mascariñas shared.
“We needed to continue that momentum, and what better way to do so than hosting a World Tour Masters event?”
Expected to compete in the event are some of the world’s best 3×3 clubs, including Liman, Novi Sad, Riga Ghetto, and NY Harlem.
Serving as the qualifier for local teams is the upcoming 2020 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 President’s Cup which begins next month.
This year, the World Tour will have 13 Masters events. The World Tour Finals will take place on November in Riyadh.
“We want to bring the sport back to the people,” said FIBA 3×3 director Alex Sanchez about bringing the event to the Philippines.
Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas is also planning to host another Super Quest late this year.
