Following another impressive campaign that ended in heartbreak, Ces Molina vowed to power through and keep on fighting for Cignal as they look to finally get over the hump in the next season of the Premier Volleyball League.
The HD Spikers once again fell short in their bid to capture their first-ever PVL title, settling for a bronze medal after getting booted out by Choco Mucho in the semifinals.
They took the opening game before eventually losing the next two – relegating them to their fourth battle for bronze in the past six conferences.
“I think yung goal naman namin palagi is to be in the finals pero yun nga lagi kami nasho-short. Pero as you can see, ‘di naman kami tumitigil. The players, yung coaches namin, ‘di na talaga tumitigil and yung support ng management namin,” said Molina after the team’s Game 2 win over Chery Tiggo in the third-place series.
The last time that Cignal played for a championship was back in the 2022 Reinforced Conference where they got swept by the Lindsay Vander Weide-led Petro Gazz.
Since then, the team has failed to book a return trip to the PVL finals. They finished in sixth place in the First All-Filipino Conference to open the 2023 season before ending the year with back-to-back bronze finishes.
Molina said that despite their numerous podium finishes, the goal remains the same for the HD Spikers: to compete in the finals and snatch that elusive title that has been haunting them for nearly three years now.
The reigning Invitational Conference MVP knows what it takes to be back there. And she believes that with the right amount of hard work and a longer preparation, Cignal will be back there in no time.
“Siguro for me, as a player, kailangan pa nang mas mahabang preparation and yun nga, more trainings pa or mga training camps pa para ma-improve din yung mga skills namin,” said Molina, who registered 14 points on 12 attacks, one ace, and one block in the bronze-clinching win.
“Yun, wala naman kaming hinahanap talaga, kailangan lang namin itaas talaga yung level ng laro namin as a player.”
