John Riel Casimero had a countdown in his mind heading into his bout against Guillermo Rigondeaux on Sunday.
After outlasting Rigondeaux, he chalked one off his ledger.
“This is my plan. Three people. First, Rigondeaux finished,” the WBO World Bantamweight Champion said after outpointing the 40-year-old Cuban in a bout that was more of getting out of the way rather than punching.
As he said that, he dropped his ring finger. There are two more up.
“Second, (Nonito) Donaire.”
He then folded up his index finger.
With only the middle finger up, he said, “And next, Inoue.”
WBC champ Donaire and Casimero have long had a beef as the two were slated to face off on the same August day. However, disputes between the two camps led to a falling out.
On the other hand, Casimero has long chased Inoue for a unification bout for his WBO belt and the Japanese’s IBF and The Ring titles.
But yes, the post-fight was more entertaining than the 36-minute bout between Casimero and Rigondeaux.
“That was colorful,” quipped Showtime’s Jim Gray.
