Parks’ off-season plans: ‘Just trying to get better’

The plans of Alab Pilipinas and Bobby Ray Parks, Jr. did not go as intended.

After rolling his ankle in Game One of the best-of-three semifinals series that pit Alab Pilipinas against the Singapore Slingers, the 24-year-old was forced to sit out Game Two, only able to watch his team get eliminated on home soil, 64-82.

“Di talaga kaya.

“I tried to get issued a clearance from my doctors to play but my hip compensated for my ankle. It just ruined my right leg. I can’t do anything,” the product of National University admitted.

“I have to get an MRI and ultrasound to see if there’s a partial tear, but we’ll see how it goes,” the 6-foot-4 cager furthered.

In his first season with Alab Pilipinas, the Filipino-American combo guard’s norms had dropped as the grind of the season went on. He played hurt during the tail-end of the season, while battling fatigue as his averages fell to 18.29 points, 7.19 rebounds, and 4.14 assists.

“Halfway through the season, I’ve been playing hurt so I just want to be back to 100-percent really,” the second-generation cager added.

With this goal in mind, the two-time collegiate MVP looks to work out in the States before planning his next step.

“Most likely in May, I’ll be training first with Tyrone Gordon again and see where that takes us, see what my agent in the States has for us,” he shared.

“Right now, I’m just trying to get better. I’m open minded to everything and we’ll see how everything goes. It’s not just about having opportunities, it’s having the right opportunity.”
