Savannah Davison has always believed that pressure brings out the best in her.
Given the opportunity, she knew she could deliver. And on Tuesday night, as the stakes reached their highest and the weight of expectation crashed down like a relentless storm, she didn’t just play — she soared.
With the threat of elimination looming, the Fil-Canadian outside hitter embraced the challenge. She channeled every ounce of pressure into a breathtaking performance that propelled PLDT past a relentless Creamline squad in the knockout semifinal of the 2025 PVL On Tour.
Davison dropped a game-high 34 points, none more crucial than the eight she scored in the nerve-wracking, high-intensity fifth set. Those points allowed the High Speed Hitters to complete their comeback from a 1-2 deficit and secure their first-ever Finals appearance.
It was a performance forged in the heat of the moment — precisely the kind of challenge Davison believes brings out her best, one she has long sought to embrace.
“Pressure is a privilege,” said the 27-year-old outside hitter following PLDT’s 27-25, 22-25, 19-25, 25-16, 15-10 win over Creamline. “I tend to perform better when there’s a lot of pressure.
“So like that’s just my job, I wanna be in that role so I’m just glad it transpired the way it did and I’m glad it was in the fifth set,” she added.
Facing the league’s winningest club, arguably the team with the largest fan base, and with a championship spot on the line, Davison couldn’t have asked for a bigger stage to prove herself under pressure.
And prove herself she did.
“It’s always a good feeling to win. This one’s a little bit more sweet because they’re just hard competitors. It makes you look back at all the hard work and the sacrifices and all the days that you didn’t wanna show up but you did,” said the spiker from Toronto.
“But like I said, it’s a great feeling to be a part of, and I know throughout this season that we’ve grown closer together because of sacrifices and the hard work. Like I said, I’m glad it transpired and I’m glad… I’m not glad it was Creamline, but I’m glad we’re going to the finals,” she added.
But as impressive as her performance was, Davison acknowledged she could not have done it alone.
They say great pressure comes with great responsibility, and Davison has shown she is more than ready to carry the weight — especially with the unwavering support of her teammates.
“I think I’ve always felt supported. It’s not so much about what other people do in the game, it’s just another look on the other side of the court, or in the middle, or coming from different angles, so it’s not so much like I didn’t feel like anybody was supporting me,” said Davison.
“But now, there’s people firing from all cylinders across the net and that’s really hard to defend. So it makes my job a little easier, because it opens up some space for me right at the same time I open up some space for them so it’s a give and take. I’m just glad that we complement each other.”
