Bersola anchors BanKo to consecutive wins, sends Choco Mucho skidding

Following a straight-set thumping of Chef’s Classics last Sunday, BanKo pulled off another sweep, picking up its first back-to-back wins in the 2019 PVL Open Conference, Wednesday.

The Perlas Spikers subdued the upstart Choco Mucho, grounding the Flying Titans, 25-18, 25-20, 25-23, Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

“Siyempre big boost for us kasi even last conference, ganito nangyari na sobrang rare magka-back-to-back wins. On and off kami [this season], [so] we wanna test if magiging consistent kami,” said BanKo stalwart Kathy Bersola, who collected five blocks and hammered down 10 attacks for a game-high 15 points.

The Perlas Spikers grabbed a two-sets-to-none buffer as the troika of Bersola, Dzi Gervacio, and Nicole Tiamzon punished the Flying Titans, firing on all cylinders.

With momentum on their side, BanKo sprinted through the gates of the third set for a commanding 21-17 lead. However, Maddie Madayag and Kat Tolentino refused to let the Perlas Spikers pull away, towing the Flying Titans to within one, 20-21.

Nicole Tiamzon nailed consecutive hits to restore order for the Perlas Spikers, who saw their lead melt to just a solitary point yet again after Madayag scored on an off-the-block attack and Tiamzon muffed an opportunity.

Fortunately, Bersola and Jem Ferrer kept their team afloat, putting the finishing touches.

BanKo hike their record to 4-2.

Gervacio supplied 13 markers laced with 13 excellent digs and seven excellent receptions. Tiamzon chipped 11 points, while Sue Roces added eight.

BanKo playmaker Ferrer churned out 22 excellent sets to help the Perlas Spikers pummel 51 attacks. She also had five points.

On the other hand, the Flying Titans fell to an even 2-2 slate.

Madayag was the lone double-digit scorer for Choco Mucho. She poured in 15 markers — built on 14 attacks and a block — in a losing cause.

Bang Pineda flirted with a double-double of eight markers and 10 excellent digs. Meanwhile, Tolentino was limited to just eight points from seven attacks and a block.

“Kahit sinong team, we worked hard for it. Training kami, binantayan talaga namin si Kat kasi siya number one scorer ng team,” Tiamzon admitted.

BanKo Perlas look to make it three in a row when they square off against Bali Pure on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Choco Mucho seek to snap their skid when they face sister team Creamline on Saturday. Both games will be played at the FilOil Arena.
