Following a disciplined regimen with Japanese coaches, the growth continues for the young Farm Fresh team with the arrival of Benson Bocboc and his statistics-driven approach.
Foxies’ young stars Trisha Tubu and Louie Romero bared that the team’s in-game adjustments and scouting were made easier by Bocboc, who came in as an assistant last season before taking over as interim head coach in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.
“Of course, si Coach Benson sa stats talaga siya eh so mas mabilis naming ma-adjust ‘yung dapat ma-adjust and mabilis naming mabasa ‘yung kalaban namin,” said team captain Romero.
“So malaking help siya kasi hindi mo na kailangan gumalaw ng todo kasi kilala mo na at tsaka napag-aralan mo na ‘yung kalaban,” she added.
Tubu said that the effectiveness of Bocboc’s approach was in full display during their straight-set stunner of Akari on Saturday night, which marked the first time that the franchise beat the Chargers since joining the league.
“Yun din kasi ‘yun nga, may tiwala kami kay coach kasi na lahat ng sasabihin niya talaga sinusunod namin kasi alam namin na may number kasi. So talagang nag-stick kami dun sa plan and nangyari na napanalo namin ‘yung game,” said the reinging Reinforced Conference Best Opposite Spiker.
Entering the match as underdogs, the Foxies pulled off a shocking 25-23, 25-21, 25-14 victory over Akari to finally put one on the board in the ongoing All-Filipino tilt.
Tubu tallied 21 points on 18 attacks and three kill blocks, while Romero directed the show with 19 excellent sets to go along with five points.
Bocboc, whose last head coaching role in the PVL was with the now-defunct F2 Logistics, praised the young Foxies for their attention to detail and their quick adaptability.
“Sa tingin ko, kasi flexible ‘yung team eh. May mga instruction ka mabilis nila makuha so kailangan lang they have to stick dun sa ginagawa tapos magtiwala lang sila then ‘yung result susunod eh. So ngayon, nagkataon natapat dito sa game na ito. Tinatiyaga talaga nila.”
