Angela Jackson entered the 2025 Premier Volleyball League Draft with nerves, hope, and a dream — despite being just 20 years old and having never played in the UAAP women’s division.
On Sunday, that risk was rewarded.
The University of the Philippines Integrated School product became the youngest draftee of the year when ZUS Coffee selected her 28th overall in the fourth round, completing the Thunderbelles’ draft haul.
“Very much relieved. I would say what I did was a bold move. I’m relieved that I was chosen,” Jackson shared after hearing her name called.
Standing at 5-foot-9 and playing the opposite spiker position, Jackson admitted the experience was nerve-racking, especially as teams began passing in the third and early fourth rounds.
For a player with limited exposure compared to her peers, every pick felt like an eternity.
“Medyo nakakakaba po siyang experience. Of course, I’m one of the wala masyadong exposure, but I’m so glad po that I took the step and very much thankful [for] the opportunity,” she said.
As teams slowly trimmed their draft boards, doubt crept in. But when ZUS Coffee called her name, relief and joy washed over her.
“Just very anxious po. But I kept on hoping po na sana kahit pi nakakakaba kasi may nagpa-pass na po na team so pakaunti ng pakaunti. But I’m glad that I was able to be picked,” she added.
ZUS Coffee also selected top-tier talents like AC Miner (5th overall), Mycah Go (17th), and Riza Nogales (25th) — giving Jackson not just a roster spot, but a golden opportunity to grow under seasoned pros.
In fact, Jackson couldn’t hide her excitement about joining forces with one of her idols, AC Miner.
“Very much excited po. I hope po I could learn things from her and I’m looking forward to be able to play with her,” she said with a smile.
With a blend of youth and experience, the Thunderbelles offer the perfect environment for Jackson to develop and thrive. And while the spotlight may be new to her, the rookie is fully aware of the challenge ahead.
“Of course, this is a big jump. I would say na I have a lot of work to put in.”
