Riding the crest of a seven-game winning streak, the Creamline Cool Smashers ran roughshod over the Bali Pure Water Defenders, 25-8, 25-19, 25-14, to sweep the first round of the 2019 PVL Open Conference, Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
“I think it’s really important for us to be confident going into the second round kasi all the teams are starting to jell, starting to gain experience… Nagsa-start silang mag-click na together,” said Creamline setter Jia Morado. “So advantage sa amin na na-sweep yung first round going into the second round.”
Save for the second set, the Water Defenders never got close to Cool Smashers. Creamline strutted their high-octane offense with Morado back in the fold.
Morado missed the previous match of Creamline due to a gastroenteritis disease. This match, she then churned out the offense with 14 excellent sets as she buoyed eight Cool Smashers to the scoring column.
Alyssa Valdez fired a game-high 18 points — built on 14 attacks and four service aces — laced with eight excellent receptions for the Cool Smashers.
Creamline cap their first-round campaign with a league-best 8-0 card.
Jema Galanza supplied eight markers on top of seven excellent digs. Meanwhile, Heather Guino-o chipped in six markers spiked by a pair of kill blocks. Michele Gumabao and Pau Soriano managed five markers apiece.
On the other hand, the Water Defenders have sunk to solo seventh seed with a 2-5 slate.
Bali Pure only had one player in double-digit territory in Menchie Tubiera. She finished with 10 points alongside five excellent receptions and three excellent digs.
Coming off a conference-high 31-point eruption against BanKo last Sunday, Graziella Bombita was limited to just nine markers in the match, where she netted a pair of service aces.
Bali Pure shall next face the PacificTown–Army on Wednesday, September 11 at the same venue.
