It’s unusual to see 14-year pro Alex Cabagnot in a PBA D-League game, more so courtside while clad in a semi-formal attire and wearing broadcast headsets calling games.
But it has been going on for some time now.
“Actually this is my fifth game commentating and I like it,” admitted the San Miguel Beermen guard, as he called the CEU Scorpions-Che’lu Revellers Foundation Cup semis opener, Tuesday.
The 35-year-old combo guard shared that doing commentary is a passion project of his, just like as he has been doing with the UP Fighting Maroons, where he serves as one of their mentors.
According to Cabagnot, he’s doing these things to expand his repertoire in basketball.
“This is just a passion project for me. I like doing it, just like coaching the UP guys,” said the well-spoken Cabagnot.
“I just like doing it. For me, its an opportunity to broaden my horizon.
“It’s not the most opportune time for me to do it, but it’s the semifinals here and it’s a good experience. It’s something I like to do,” the seven-time PBA champion added.
It’s impressive to see how Cabagnot manages his time, knowing that his San Miguel Beermen are in the midst of the Commissioner’s Cup Finals versus Barangay Ginebra.
The best-of-seven series is currently tied at one game apiece.
“This game and tomorrow’s game are totally different. My mental edge, the way I’m looking at things is totally different,” said Cabagnot, allaying fears that he might be robbed of focus.
“Siyempre, San Miguel is my priority
“But it doesn’t take away the fact that there’s a lot of things I want to do business-wise, coaching, player development, education, all that stuff.”
