Alaska to tap new import as Branden Dawson exceeds height limit

The 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup is three weeks away, but Alaska are already facing challenges. Unfortunately for them, Branden Dawson exceeded the 6-foot-5 height limit for imports.

PBA technical operations staff Mauro Bengua told Tiebreaker Times that Dawson measured at 6’5″ 1/4 during his measurement in the league’s office Monday afternoon.

The Aces chose Dawson over the tried-and-tested Mike Harris since the team is looking for a fresh start under new head coach Jeffrey Cariaso, who took over the reins from Alex Compton.

It is uncertain whether Alaska will look for a new face or rekindle their relationship with Harris, who steered the Aces to a runner-up finish in the 2018 Governors’ Cup.

Harris, who’s now 36 years old, is the conference’s reigning Best Import. The hulking 6-foot-5 forward averaged 29.6 points, 20.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks last season.
