After serving time, Larry Muyang ready to prove worth for Converge

Larry Muyang can now focus on Converge and proving himself anew after finally getting rid of the heavy baggage that nearly altered his basketball career.

The bruising big man is now in the PBA again after making amends with the past, particularly with Phoenix and the league as a whole as well.

“Ayun nga po… ‘Yung kasalanan ko roon sa Phoenix, sa dati kong team, pinagbayaran ko naman po siguro ‘yun dahil na-ban po ako,” he said.

“Pinagsisihan ko po ‘yung pag-alis ko roon,” he added.

Muyang played his first game back on Wednesday, helping the FiberXers to a 125-108 win over Terrafirma in PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup action.

It marked a fresh start for the Kapampangan cager after getting slapped with an indefinite ban for a serious breach of contract while with the Fuel Masters.

The PBA handed down the decision back in April, shortly after Muyang joined Pampanga in the MPBL despite being under a live pact with his ex-team.

But the former La Salle center has since rectified his mistakes after issuing an apology to the ball club, to the Commissioner’s Office, and to the Board.

The door soon opened for him, leading to his return via Converge, which acquired his rights through a three-team trade with Phoenix and NorthPort.

And now, he comes back more enlightened, given what he had gone through.

“Kung hindi po ako gagawa ng ibang way,” he said, “para mahanap ‘yung totoong basketball career ko, parang ‘di po lilitaw kung ano ‘yung meron ako.”

Now with a clearer heart and in the proper headspace, Muyang showed what he can bring to his new team by tallying 10 points and five rebounds.

“Parang mas nadala ko po ‘yung laro ko sa MPBL dito,” said the former Giant Lanterns star, who also had a block in the 20 minutes he played.

“Parang tumaas po ‘yung kumpiyansa ko dahil po kay Boss Delta.”

He now looks to provide support to the frontcourt tandem of Justin Arana and Justine Baltazar. And Muyang is more than willing to do the work.

“OK lang sa akin kahit pamalit po ako, ilang minuto, basta ‘yung best ko makatulong lang sa kanilang dalawa,” the 30-year-old big man said.

“Para kahit papano, ‘yung pagod nila maibsan konti.”
