Pumicpic vies for WBO Intercontinental belt against Juarez

Filipino super bantamweight Richard Pumicpic has drawn his toughest opponent to date, taking on Mexican Cesar Juarez this October at a still to-be-determined venue in Mexico on Sunday, October 30 (Philippine time).

The 26-year-old Pumicpic, who bested Joe “Misako” Noynay to claim the vacant WBC International belt last May, will be flying halfway across the world to challenge Juarez for the WBO Intercontinental title. Juarez won the WBO IC crown last July after knocking out then-undefeated Albert Pagara in San Mateo, California, USA.

Juarez is best remembered for his performance against reigning WBO world super bantamweight king Nonito Donaire in Puerto Rico last year. Donaire outpointed Juarez to take the unanimous decision win.

Pumicpic’s manager, Anson Tiu Co confirmed to Tiebreaker Times how the fight had come about.

“Pinabitawan na ng WBC sa amin yun International title nya dahil tinangap namin offer,” Tiu Co said, confident that his ward will be up to the task against the hard-hitting Juarez.

“After nung napanuod ko laban ni Pagara at Juarez, sabi ko sa mga trainers namin na si Juarez sana makalaban ni Pic. Bagay na bagay istilo nila sa isa’t isa.”
