In his last fight, Joe “Misako” Noynay fought Alie Laurel to a draw. Despite the outcome not going in his favor, Misako is using this as motivation in his second crack at the vacant WBC Intercontinental super bantamweight belt tomorrow night at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall in Pasay City.

The 20-year old Cebuano was impressive during the title fight as he showcased a quicker and crisper jab compared to his past fights. Laurel was able to find his way back to make the fight a tightly-contested affair that resulted to a split-draw. Moreover, ot denied both men of the title.
“Siyempre nadismaya,” Joe told Tiebreaker Times about falling short of winning the title. “Pero talagang ganun ang boxing eh kaya tatanggapin ko nalang. At least safe tayo at walang masamang nanyari sa atin.”
The reigning WBC Eurasia Pacific Boxing Council super bantamweight champion, who owns an impressive record of ten wins and a draw, remains thankful for the second opportunity given to him and vows to do the best he can to make sure that the support he receives would not be put to waste.
According to him, he has doubled his effort in training to make sure that the results will be in his favor once he steps in to the ring tomorrow against Richard Pumicpic.
No stranger to title fights is Pumicpic (17-7-2, 6KO). The 25-year old has fought in several title bouts and is a former WBC Youth Silver bantamweight title holder. In addition, the Zamboanga del Norte-born boxer is coming of back-to-back knockout victories that makes him an as dangerous as Laurel.
“May kalakasan itong kalaban ko kaya dobleng ingat nalang siguro kasi alam kong mas beterano pa ito sa akin eh.” Noynay said about his opponent. “Kaya ensayo lang tapos pinag-aralan ko naman yung mga galaw niya tapos ingat lang din sa laban.”
Another thing that Joe and his team addressed in the training camp was his conditioning. During his bout against Laurel, Misako was visibly winded in the latter rounds that resulted to short combinations and less power punches. With that in-check, he promises a better version of himself that will hopefully end with another belt on his waist.
“Siguro ang masasabi ko, sa laban nalang natin makikita kasi sa ngayon, ang ginawa ko ngayon mas pinalakas ko yung sarili ko at mas pinalakas ko yung stamina ko para manalo sa nararating kong laban,” he closed.
“Kung ano man yung nakita niyo nung dati kong laban ko, baka dodoblehin ko pa. Magl-evel up pa sa darating kong laban, yun lang po.”
Joe “Misako” Noynay and Richard “The Beast” Pumicpic will vie in for the vacant WBC Intercontinental super bantamweight title on Wednesday, May 4 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall in Pasay City.
