Adamson clinches third win, UE drops 52-straight

After a rocky start, the Adamson University Lady Falcons head into the second round of the UAAP Women’s Volleyball Tournament on a two-game winning streak after defeating the University of the East Lady Warriors in straight sets 25-22, 25-22, 25-19 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Unlike their past three matches, the Lady Warriors managed to keep each set close as Adamson slumped in different parts of each frame. But the Lady Falcons persisted and use their superior spiking to take a relatively easy sweep.

Adamson’s Jema Galanza tallied a game-high 15 points, team captain Mylene Paat contributed 13, while May Roque added 10.

The Lady Falcons finished the first round at 3-4, just out of the Final Four picture for the mean time.

“Medyo mababa ‘yung nilaro namin ngayong round. Sana magtuloy-tuloy na ‘tong streak namin into the second round. Sana ‘yung ikinapanget ng simula namin, ‘yun din ‘yung ikakaganda ng pagtapos namin sa elimnation round,” said Adamson head coach, Sherwin Meneses.

“Kailangan pa namin magstep up sa depensa lalo na sa pagdepensa sa mga short ball. Parang ambagal namin dumepenaa sa ganoon,” added Meneses referring to what his team needs to improve.

Shaya Adorador led the Lady Warriors with 13 points, the only UE player in double-digits.

UE are now at 0-7, having lost their 52nd straight match in the UAAP dating back to 2012.
