ZUS Coffee ended a three-game slump by defeating Capital1, 31-29, 25-15, 25-15, in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig on Saturday night.
The Thunderbelles had to grind through the first set to find their rhythm, but they dominated the second frame by 10 points to move a set away from a sweep.
In the third set, Chai Troncoso, Gayle Pascual, Chinnie Arroyo, Kate Santiago, and Mich Gamit all contributed to a strong performance, as ZUS Coffee broke away from a tight 11-9 score to close out the match in just 87 minutes.
“‘Yung first set ang ganda ano? Hindi. Yung execution wala pa, yung tiwala wala pa, yung kumpyansa kulang pa so we’ll try to work in those. Second and third sets ayun nag execute naman, nag tuloy tuloy lang sa trabaho,” said ZUS Coffee head coach Jerry Yee.
Arroyo led all scorers with 15 points, including 13-of-27 attacks, one block, and one ace, while also tallying 12 excellent digs.
Troncoso added 12 points and five digs, and Gamit also contributed 12 points in the decisive victory.
Thea Gagate finished with eight points, while Jov Gonzaga chipped in with seven.
ZUS Coffee improved to 3-4, tying Farm Fresh for eighth and ninth places. The three-game slump it snapped included losses to Choco Mucho and Creamline in five sets, and Farm Fresh in four.
The Thunderbelles will aim to even their record when they face Chery Tiggo on Thursday.
Capital1’s losing streak continued, dropping to 1-6 with its third consecutive defeat. The only team with a worse record is the winless Nxled.
Jorelle Singh was the lone Solar Spiker in double figures, scoring 10 points, while Syd Niegos and Des De Guzman each had six points.
Libero Roma Mae Doromal also contributed 17 receptions and 10 digs in the loss.
Capital1 will look to end its losing streak next Saturday when they face Akari.
