Barring any conflict, the 43rd season of the PBA will unfold a month from now. However, the current power struggle has left the league’s status hanging in the balance. It might even translate to a lockout.
But there are some who continue to keep the faith among the higher-ups. And one of them is NLEX Road Warriors head coach Yeng Guiao, who firmly believes that this current impasse will find its conclusion soon.
“Malaki ang tiwala ko sa judgement ng mga board of governors natin at saka kay Commissioner mismo,” said the 59-year-old, who has been coaching since 1990, Saturday morning, after his team’s tune-up with SMART Gilas Pilipinas.
“They will make decisions according to the interest of the whole league, ‘di yung pansarili lang.”
A lot of people, especially the PBA fans, had expected the board wars to reach a resolution as soon as possible, particularly during the annual board meeting set last Tuesday, November 14, in Los Angeles, California.
Unfortunately though, the expected meeting was reduced to a mere sight-seeing tour. And they have the absence of a handful of team governors — including incoming PBA chairman Mon Fernandez — to blame for that.
But despite all the fuss, Guiao is hopeful that the governors will come up with a decision sometime in the near future that will benefit Asia’s first pro league and its fans, who are the heart of the PBA.
“Palagay ko they are all well-intentioned [sic],” opined Guiao.
“At the end of the day, they will decide in favor of the PBA and the fans.”
