Coach Yeng Guiao did not hide his utter disappointment regarding Chris Newsome’s end-game shot in the NLEX Road Warriors’ 90-106 loss to the Meralco Bolts on Friday night.
Newsome sank a right-wing jumper with 1.6 ticks left that settled the final score, but it left Guiao furious — so much that he apparently cursed out the swingman after the final buzzer had sounded.
“It’s still a disrespect pero sa akin naman it was totally unnecessary at that point,” the fiery Guiao said. “Alam ko naman may quotient pero that’s more than enough quotient for them.
“At the same time, I did not expect it from Newsome,” admitted the decorated mentor.
“I knew he was kind of a good guy who’s going to probably understand the situation like that.”
But Guiao was quick to add that they might have deserved to be disrespected due to the uncharacteristic game they had played — they went down by as much as 24, 40-64, to the Bolts.
“We probably deserved to be disrespected.
“Sama ng laro namin. We couldn’t get any rhythm or find our offense,” rued Guiao, as NLEX shot just 43 percent from the floor.
The Road Warriors are nearly at the bottom of the standings with a 0-3 card. And for Guiao, this is now the point where pushing the panic button has become extremely necessary.
“To be in a hole like 0-3, emergency situation na ‘to kumbaga,” admitted Guiao. “If we don’t pick it up in the next few games, I guess we will be looking forward to the next conference.
“It’s disappointing because we played so well in the last conference We’ve been making progress steadily, and then we come to this, so it’s not what we’ve expected.”
