With Alas Women duty over, Choco Mucho hopes for Rondina, Nunag comeback

With the conclusion of national team tournaments and events – including the Southeast Asia V.League’s two legs – Choco Mucho is now hoping to finally have superstar Sisi Rondina and middle blocker Cherry Nunag back in action.

Alas Pilipinas Women just wrapped up a series of tournaments that began in May with a bronze medal finish in the AVC Challenge Cup.

As hosts, the Philippines also participated in the FIVB Challenger Cup in July.

To cap it off, the Nationals secured back-to-back bronze finishes in the SEA V.League, with the second leg ending just last Sunday.

Following the Flying Titans’ five-set escape against the Chery Tiggo Crossovers on Tuesday, head coach Dante Alinsunurin shared that there is still no update on the playing statuses of the national team players returning to their mother clubs in the Premier Volleyball League.

“Sa ngayon, wala pa rin kaming update. Naghihintay pa rin kami na sana makaabot sila at makalaro sila,” said Alinsunurin regarding Rondina and Nunag.

“Pero kung hindi talaga pupwede, syempre kailangan naming sumunod sa association sa kung ano mang gusto nilang mangyari sa national team, suporta pa rin kami sa kanila.”

Choco Mucho took a big hit with the absence of the high-flying Rondina and reliable Nunag, stumbling to fifth place in Pool B of the Reinforced Conference first round with a 1-4 record.

Their lone win came at the expense of the winless ZUS Coffee.

The Flying Titans finally snapped a two-game skid with their 25-16, 25-11, 23-25, 19-25, 15-12 win against the Crossovers. They now look to climb higher, as only the top eight teams will advance to the quarterfinals.

With a 2-4 record, Choco Mucho is currently tied with Farm Fresh for the eighth to ninth spots.

The Flying Titans still have to face Creamline and PLDT in their upcoming matches.
