Van Sickle, Phillips, Andaya to debut for Alas Women at VTV Cup

VIGAN, ILOCOS SUR — Filipino-Americans Brooke Van Sickle, MJ Phillips, and Tia Andaya will play for Alas Pilipinas Women for the first time in the upcoming VTV Cup in Vietnam.

Alas head coach Jorge Souza de Brito confirmed the development.

Van Sickle had been training with the national team since she arrived from Hawaii. Meanwhile, Phillips and Andaya were already attending practice before Alas’ historic silver-medal finish in the 2025 AVC Women’s Nations Cup earlier this month.

“For sure, she will help us as a team. As everybody knows, we’re just waiting for her papers to be released. Until then, she’s training with us to get ready to play for Alas,” De Brito said of the reigning Premier Volleyball League Season MVP.

“She was the MVP in our last PVL All-Filipino, but volleyball isn’t an individual sport. She’s adapting very well, just like MJ and Tia,” he added.

Justine Jazareno (Akari), Amie Provido (La Salle), Mars Alba (La Salle), Leila Cruz (Capital1), and Alleiah Malaluan (PLDT) will join fellow La Salle products Thea Gagate and Fifi Sharma in the roster.

Team captain Jia De Guzman, together with Dawn Catindig, Lams Lamina, Dell Palomata, Eya Laure, Vanie Gandler, and Maddie Madayag will complete the 17-man roster, which will be trimmed down to 14.

Bella Belen, Alyssa Solomon, Angel Canino, Shaina Nitura, Jennifer Nierva, Clarisse Loresco, and Julia Coronel, who all suited up in the Nations Cup, will sit out the invitational tournament.

The VTV Cup will run from June 28 to July 5.
