V.League: Espejo’s return not enough to lift Tokyo past JTEKT

FC Tokyo reeled to its third-straight defeat, succumbing to JTEKT in straight sets, 17-25, 12-25, 19-25, in the 2021-22 V.League Division 1 men’s tournament, Saturday at the Kariya City Gymnasium.

Marck Espejo finally returned on the taraflex after missing FC Tokyo’s past three games due to a shoulder injury.

But the 6-foot-3 Filipino import was just still testing his shoulder, only playing a portion of the second set. He went scoreless in just three spiking attempts.

Kento Miyaura led the way for the Stings with 19 points on 15 attacks, three service aces, and a block.

Brazilian reinforcement Felipe Fonteles chipped in 14 points founded on 11 spikes, two aces, and a block as JTEKT rose to 12-9 for fourth place.

Ayato Kuroda was the lone FC Tokyo player to hit double digits with 11 points, 10 off attacks.

Yuma Nagatomo had nine points while Norwegian import Jonas Kvalen was limited to just seven points.

FC Tokyo slid to 6-15 and will have a rematch with the Stings tomorrow at 12 pm (Manila time).
