UAAP POW Kevin Quiambao still sees room for improvement for La Salle

During the first week of the UAAP Season 87 Men’s Basketball Tournament, Kevin Quiambao, the 23-year-old reigning MVP, showcased his exceptional skills by averaging impressive numbers of 18.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game.

His standout performances came against National University, Adamson University, and Ateneo de Manila University, leading his team to a perfect 3-0 record.

Quiambao’s stellar play has not only bolstered De La Salle University’s campaign but also earned him the Collegiate Press Corps UAAP Men’s Player of the Week award for the period of September 7 to 15.

This accolade reflects his significant contribution to the team’s success.

In his own words, Quiambao acknowledged the ongoing challenges, stating, “So far, lahat sa amin, marami pang pagkukulang, especially me, marami pa akong pagkukulang dahil bago nga lang ako sa leadership role. Pero kailangan lang namin na gawin namin yung best namin and control yung mako-control namin.”

Quiambao’s impact was particularly evident in the game against NU, where he hit the decisive three-pointer and scored nine of the last 14 points for the Taft-based team.

His command of the game extended to a commanding 30-point victory over the Soaring Falcons and a near triple-double performance against the Blue Eagles.

Ultimately, Quiambao received unanimous recognition for the award, surpassing competitors such as UP’s JD Cagulangan, UST’s Nic Cabanero, and Adamson’s Monty Montebon.
