UAAP 85 WBB: NU limits UE to six first half points, cruises to 61-point win

Defending UAAP Women’s Basketball Champion National University cruised to their 107th straight win, romping also-ran University of the East, 92-31, Sunday at UST’s Quadricentennial Pavilion.

The Lady Bulldogs set the tone in the first quarter as they limited the Lady Warriors to 2of-17 shooting and forced them to commit six turnovers in the period.

NU then made things worse for UE in the second quarter. The Recto school was limited to just one field goal in 18 attempts, which was made by Justine Silva.

Lady Bulldogs standout Camille Clarin outscored the entire Lady Warriors all by her lonesome in the first two quarters, scoring nine of her 14 points during the first 20 minutes of action.

NU led as much as 65 points over UE multiple times in the contest.

“I think we really had a great week before this game,” said NU coach Aris Dimaunahan. “Ang ganda ng practice namin. It was a highly competitive practice before this game.

“The challenge was how well we could translate those practices into the actual game today. I’m glad they did. They dominated the game today,” he continued as every Lady Bulldog he fielded scored in the contest.

Tin Cayabyab led NU with 17 points followed by Clarin’s 14. Mikka Cacho had 11 points along with seven rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs.

The result allowed NU to further strengthen its grip at the top of the standings with an 11-0 record.

The Lady Bulldogs moved the ball very well today as they made 28 assists compared to the Lady Warriors’ six. However, NU was only able to convert nine out of its 28 free throw attempts.
