Gilas Women bow to Thailand, finish eighth in 3×3 WS Batam

Gilas Pilipinas Women saw its campaign in the 2026 FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series–Batam Stop come to an end on Friday after falling to Thailand, 15-11, in the quarterfinals at Alun-Alun Batam Centre in Indonesia.

Despite the quarterfinal exit, the Filipinas’ eighth-place finish earned valuable ranking points, lifting them to **26th in the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series standings** and allowing them to overtake Manila in the global rankings.

The Philippines was right in the contest early, staying level with Thailand at 8-8 midway through the game.

Thailand, however, seized control behind Rattiyakorn Udomsuk, who scored three straight baskets, before Supavadee Kunchuan knocked down a two-pointer to stretch the lead to 12-8.

Mikka Cacho and Elizabeth Means tried to spark a late comeback, but clutch baskets from Kunchuan and Warinthon Summat sealed the victory for Thailand, which advanced to the semifinals against China.

Cacho paced Gilas with six points, while Camille Clarin contributed three. Means and Tantoy Ferrer were limited to one point apiece.

Udomsuk led Thailand with eight points, while Kunchuan added six, all coming from beyond the arc.

Despite the defeat, Gilas Pilipinas Women turned in an encouraging campaign in Batam.

The Filipinas opened the tournament by defeating Vietnam, 21-11, and Slovakia, 16-15, on Day 1 to secure a spot in the main draw.

They then absorbed a 21-9 loss to powerhouse France before bouncing back with a stunning 17-15 victory over Japan to clinch a berth in the knockout stage.

Gilas Pilipinas Women will next compete in the Tokyo stop of the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series, which begins on August 1.
