Terrence Romeo believes he is still far from reaching deadly form

Terrence Romeo is glad with the progress he’s been making as the star guard continues to regain his old form after being sidelined by a knee injury.

The San Miguel gunner showed how much he has recovered after leading his side to a streak-busting win over Phoenix Super LPG in the Commissioner’s Cup on Christmas Day, formalizing their entry to the quarterfinals.

“Unti-unti ko na naibabalik kasi nakakapag-scrimmage na ulit ako, nakakasabay na ako sa mga scrimmages namin,” said the former three-time scoring champion moments after their 117-96 victory at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

Romeo only returned to action last December 15 against Barangay Ginebra after sitting out for four games and has been trying to get his flow back since.

He’s been on an upward trajectory since his first game back. After only scoring nine points on 12 attempts against the Kings, the 31-year-old dropped 14 on 4-of-8 shooting from the field versus his former team in TNT.

Then on Monday, he fired 22, including 15 in the final period alone to lead the Beermen’s pullaway toward ending the Fuel Masters’ six-game win streak.

“Nasa mind ko talaga na maging aggressive,” Romeo offered regarding his Christmas performance that saw him shoot 50-percent and collect three rebounds and eight assists. “Yun talaga ‘yung mga shots ko eh.

“Thankful ako sa tiwala ni Coach Jorge (Gallent), kahit na medyo hindi ko nakukuha nung first half pero andun ‘yung tiwala niya sa akin kaya ako nakabalik ng second half,” he added as he only had seven points in the first half.

The two-time champion said there’s a conscious effort on his part to maintain his form, having said previously that he no longer intends to miss more games as he wants to help a squad dealing with injuries.

“Pinipilit ko talaga ma-maintain ‘yung kondisyon ko after ko ma-injury. Parang mga three weeks ako nagpahinga. Slowly kinukuha ko,” he said.
