The legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand will play host to the second outing of Team Lakay prospect Carlos Alvarez under the ONE Championship banner.
The 24-year-old Baguio City native is slated to lock horns with Iran’s Reza Saedi in the opening featherweight bout of ONE Friday Fights 25 on July 14.
At the same venue last April, Alvarez made a triumphant promotional debut, beating Saedi’s compatriot Reza Abasi by way of a second-round technical knockout.
Alvarez, the brother-in-law of former ONE flyweight champion Geje Eustaquio, had cruise control right from the get-go as he landed multiple takedowns and easily transitioned between positions to inflict damage with his ground-and-pound.
This similar strategy secured him the sweet victory in the following stanza, where Alvarez rained down a barrage of punches from the mount to compel referee Herb Dean to call a halt to the contest at the 3:50 mark and award him the second win in his promising professional career.
The man standing in Alvarez’s way at ONE Friday Fights 25 is Saedi, who has a kickboxing and wrestling background.
Saedi turned pro in February 2020, defeating fellow countryman Ali Khademi in a local mixed martial arts organization named Pahlevan Championship.
Since then, Saedi hasn’t figured in any bout, making Alvarez the overwhelming favorite to prevail in their matchup based on activity in the last three years and his performance this past April.
Alvarez is part of Team Lakay’s next generation of talents along with bantamweight phenom Jhanlo Sangiao.
Speaking of Sangiao, Tiebreaker Times first reported last June 29 that the undefeated sensation from La Trinidad, Benguet is penciled to take on Mongolia’s Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu at ONE Fight Night 13 on August 5.
ONE Fight Night 13 will also take place at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, which is referred to by many as the hallowed grounds of Muay Thai in Thailand.
