Sporting events will open under the Modified General Community Quarantine.
In a resolution dated May 22, the Interagency Task Force stated in its guidelines that non-essential gatherings will be allowed under MGCQ. However, venues may operate at only 50-percent capacity.
“Mass gatherings such as, but not limited to, movie screenings, concerts, sporting events, and other entertainment activities, community assemblies, and non-essential work gatherings shall be allowed provided that participants shall be limited to fifty-percent of the venue or seating capacity.”
Indoor and outdoor non-contact sports and other forms of exercise like walking, jogging, running, biking, golf, swimming, tennis, badminton, equestrian, and skateboarding will be allowed. Wearing of facemasks and social distancing will still be implemented.
However, contact sports like basketball and martial arts will remain shelved.
Gyms will also be allowed to operate but limited to basic operations.
It is being proposed that Metro Manila will be under General Community Quarantine on June 1.
The next step is the MGCQ.
