AMC-Cotabato continued to build momentum heading into the 2023 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference semifinals, gaining its third consecutive win via a 25-16, 25-21, 25-17 sweep of Philippine Air Force, Friday at the Paco Arena in Manila.
Jau Umandal was in his usual game with 14 points on 12 kills, a block, and a service ace, while five other Cotabato Spikers scored at least seven.
With a balanced attack, AMC head coach Odjie Mamon was satisfied with the team’s buildup with the next round looming.
“They’re getting there. Okay na magkasundo na sa setter and attackers babawasan na lang talaga yung servicer error pero yung power hindi ko ipapaalis, the targeting is there already,” said Mamon.
“Magkasundo na rin kami sa mga pasa so it’s getting along well.”
Steven Rotter and Jayvee Sumagaysay each dropped eight points while Wewe Medina, Madz Gampong, and Rex Intal made seven points apiece.
The Cotabato Spikers rose to 8-1 and will finish their preliminary round on Sunday against Iloilo – a team they will also face in the semis.
Edwin Tolentino spearheaded the Airmen with 11 points on eight attacks, two blocks, and an ace, while Jhay-r Labrador netted seven points.
Air Force ended the conference at 2-8.
