Roger Pogoy out at least two weeks with hamstring injury

Roger Pogoy is ruling himself out of the all-important Game 5 of the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup semifinals this Wednesday due to a hamstring injury.

The 33-year-old two-way specialist from Cebu isn’t optimistic about his status for TNT’s potential series-clincher versus Meralco at the SMART Araneta Coliseum after going down in pain early in their eventual win in Game 4 on Sunday night.

“Malabo. Hindi kaya,” he told reporters moments after their 102-83 victory at the SM Mall of Asia Arena that gave them the 3-1 lead in the race-to-4 affair.

Pogoy was visibly hurt at the 3:46 mark of the opening period when he tried to attack and measure the defense of counterpart Bong Quinto.

He had no choice but to kick it out to Jordan Heading before heading straight to the Tropang 5G bench, limping while clutching his left hamstring.

Play officially stopped with 3:29 to go, and that proved to be the end of the night for him as the coaches deemed it best to keep him on the sidelines.

The four-time champion admitted that he’d been feeling some pain even during the previous game, but it worsened only now.

“May pumitik, na-feel ko,” he said. “Ito ata ‘yung na-injure ko last year. Last game pa lang, na-feel ko na. Last game pa lang, parang may nafi-feel ako.

“Pero ngayon, bumigay na talaga siya,” added Pogoy, who only played for a total of 64 seconds.

“Pero Grade 1 lang naman, parang may strain lang kaunti.”

Pogoy, who also had to deal with the same issue during last season’s Philippine Cup, may have to sit out for at least two weeks, depending on his recovery.

With this, TNT will have to compete with a banged-up lineup again, with Rey Nambatac still far from being 100-percent due to a sprained ankle.
